Interaction of highly nonlinear solitary waves with elastic solids containing a spherical void

open access: yesInternational Journal of Solids and Structures, 2017
Abstract Numerical calculations are performed to examine the interaction of highly nonlinear solitary waves in one-dimensional granular crystals with elastic solids containing a defect in the form of an embedded spherical void. The calculations are based on a coupled numerical model, combining concepts of discrete and finite elements.

Laser-based excitation of nonlinear solitary waves in a chain of particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs) are stress waves that can form and travel in highly nonlinear systems. They are characterized by a constant spatial wavelength and by a tunable propagation speed, dependent on the wave amplitude.

Interaction of highly nonlinear solitary waves with 3D-printed artificial bone

open access: yesMechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures
This study presents experimental and numerical results on the interaction between highly nonlinear solitary waves (HNSWs) and 3D-printed bone for site-specific bone quality assessment. Computationally reconstructed bone microstructure models within three regions in the proximal femur are used to create accurate duplicates of human bone via micro ...
