Modal Damping Estimation: An Alternative for Hilbert Spectral Analysis

2019 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), 2019
This paper proposes a novel approach for modal damping estimation from system oscillatory responses. It is well-known that the signal frequency can be estimated accurately by using time-frequency distributions.

Magnitude Variation of Arterial Blood Pressure Measured Using Holo-Hilbert Spectral Analysis

Advances in Data Science and Adaptive Analysis, 2018
Arterial blood pressure (ABP) is one of the most crucial cardiovascular indicators in clinical practice. Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT) has been performed on ABP signals and resulted in ABP variability. The instantaneous P-wave interval variation had been

Hilbert spectral analysis of EEG data reveals spectral dynamics associated with microstates

Journal of Neuroscience Methods, 2019
This study addresses an ongoing debate, i.e. whether microstates have a relation to specific oscillations or frequency bands. The previous literature on this has been inconclusive. Due to stochastic calculation of microstates it is important to address this issue because instead of providing further insights, it might lead us to ambiguous ...

A confidence limit for the empirical mode decomposition and Hilbert spectral analysis [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2003
Summary: The confidence limit is a standard measure of the accuracy of the result in any statistical analysis. Most of the confidence limits are derived as follows. The data are first divided into subsections and then, under the ergodic assumption, the temporal mean is substituted for the ensemble mean.

Use of Holo-Hilbert spectral analysis to reveal the amplitude modulation features of faulty rolling bearing signals

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2022
Time-frequency analysis (TFA) is a powerful tool for vibration signal analysis. However, it cannot comprehensively reflect the cross-scale coupling relationship between amplitude-modulated (AM) and frequency-modulated (FM) characteristics of the ...

Hilbert spectral analysis of vowels using intrinsic mode functions

2015 IEEE Workshop on Automatic Speech Recognition and Understanding (ASRU), 2015
In recent work, we presented mathematical theory and algorithms for time-frequency analysis of non-stationary signals. In that work, we generalized the definition of the Hilbert spectrum by using a superposition of complex AM-FM components parameterized by the Instantaneous Amplitude (IA) and Instantaneous Frequency (IF).

PQ Event Detection After Noise Removal Using Fuzzy Transform and Hilbert Spectral Analysis on EMD

IEEE transactions on industry applications, 2023
In this paper, a noise removal technique from Power Quality (PQ) signals is proposed which is based on a soft thresholding method. Thresholding is accomplished by using Fuzzy Membership Function (MF) and Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD).

Nonlinear, non-stationary analysis of interarea oscillations via Hilbert spectral analysis

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2006
Hilbert spectral analysis (HSA) is used to characterize the time evolution of non-stationary power system oscillations following large perturbations. Using an analytical procedure based on the Hilbert-Huang Technique (HHT), data from transient stability simulations are decomposed into a finite number of time-varying oscillating components that can be ...

On the Reliability Index of the Holo-Hilbert Spectral Analysis

Advances in Data Science and Adaptive Analysis
It has been shown that, for full information spectral representation of any time series signal, a spectral form of high-dimensional manifold, known as Holo-Hilbert Spectral Analysis (HHSA), is necessary. The higher-dimensional manifold comes from the additional information of the envelopes of the carriers from a second layer of empirical mode ...

MULTIVARIATE SPECTRAL ANALYSIS USING HILBERT WAVELET PAIRS

International Journal of Wavelets, Multiresolution and Information Processing, 2004
We investigate the use of Hilbert wavelet pairs (HWPs) in the non-decimated discrete wavelet transform for the time-varying spectral analysis of multivariate time series. HWPs consist of two high-pass and two low-pass compactly supported filters, such that one high-pass filter is the Hilbert transform (approximately) of the other.
