Bombus cryptarum (Fabricius, 1775), a rare bumblebee species (Hymenoptera, Apidae) new to India [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Insect Biodiversity and Systematics
This paper reports a new addition to the national bumblebee fauna of the Indian Himalayas. The newly recorded species viz., Bombus cryptarum (Fabricius, 1775) (Hymenoptera, Apidae) is fully described from the Gurez Valley (Jammu and Kashmir) and Panamik (

Flowering out of sync: Climate change alters the reproductive phenology of Terminalia paniculata in the Western Ghats of India

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 4, Page 1322-1333, July 2026.
Understanding how climate change impacts the plant life cycle is critical for maintaining biodiversity and ecosystem services. Our findings suggest that Terminalia paniculata Roth, a common tropical deciduous tree species in the Western Ghats, is now flowering and fruiting at more scattered times than it used to in the past.

Exploring drivers and costs of partial trans‐Saharan migration in juvenile vultures

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 3, Page 1085-1099, July 2026.
Partial migration occurs when only a subset of individuals within a population undertakes a migratory journey. The decision to migrate can be influenced by intrinsic traits (e.g. sex or physical condition) as well as by extrinsic factors (e.g. social environment or resource availability).

Deciphering Cold Stress Resilience: Multiomics Insights in Contrasting Wheat Genotypes From the Western Himalayas

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 7, Page 4577-4598, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Cold stress threatens wheat productivity, particularly in regions with extreme climatic conditions. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying wheat's response to cold stress, we performed a multiomics analysis integrating lipidomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics.

Western Disturbance Breaks and Extreme Spring Heat Over Northern India Linked to Quasi‐Stationary Rossby Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 12, 28 June 2026.
Abstract Spring heat extremes over northern India in March coincide with critical wheat growth and pose disproportionate risks to yield and food security. March surface temperatures are modulated by Western Disturbances (WDs), midlatitude cyclonic systems embedded in the subtropical jet that typically bring rain and cooling.

Lithosphere‐Asthenosphere Interactions Across the Indo‐Burma Subduction Zone From Sp Receiver Functions

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract The Cenozoic convergence between the Indian and Asian plates has driven large‐scale mantle convection that interacts with both plates. Understanding this convergence benefits from clear imaging of the lithosphere‐asthenosphere boundary (LAB).

Precipitation Microphysics Over the Headwaters of the Tarim River Basin: A Striking North‐South Contrast Revealed by a Decade of GPM/DPR Observations

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract The headwater regions of the Tarim River Basin (TRB), Asia's vital “water towers,” are critical for the ecological stability of arid Northwest China, yet a systematic understanding of their diverse precipitation microphysics remains elusive.
