The lower cretaceous paraflysch of the Vardar zone: Composition and fabric [PDF]

open access: yesGeološki Anali Balkanskoga Poluostrva, 2009
The Lower Cretaceous paraflysch forms an outstanding, 250 km-long belt in the Vardar Zone. It is composed of a basal unit, uncomformable over Jurassic limestones and older rocks, and of two megasequences with the a clastic lower and clastic-carbonate ...

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

On Atheistic Hinges

open access: yesReligions
Over the last couple of decades, philosophers have been drawing on ideas from Wittgenstein’s late work On Certainty in developing an approach to epistemology known as “hinge epistemology.” Hinge epistemology has been of particular interest to ...

Optimal Design for Compliant Mechanism Flexure Hinges: Bridge-Type

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
Compliant mechanisms’ design aims to create a larger workspace and simple structural shapes because these mechanical systems usually have small dimensions, reduced friction, and less bending.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

A Generic Compliance Modeling Method for Two-Axis Elliptical-Arc-Filleted Flexure Hinges

open access: yesSensors, 2017
As a kind of important flexible joint, two-axis flexure hinges can realize in-plane and out-of-plane motions and can be used for constructing flexure-based spatial compliant mechanisms.

Performance of two-way hinges in reinforced concrete structures

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2021
Two-way hinges are frequently practiced in bridge columns aiming to avoid the transfer of bending moment to the foundation. The reduction of the concrete column section over a very small height portion is mainly sufficient to create a hinge like behavior.

Simple factorization of unitary transformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We demonstrate a method for general linear optical networks that allows one to factorize any SU($n$) matrix in terms of two SU($n-1)$ blocks coupled by an SU(2) entangling beam splitter.

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.
