Effect of Bariatric Surgery on Osteoarthritis‐Related Pain and Function: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Metabolic and bariatric surgery is associated with significant reductions in osteoarthritis diagnosis and improvements in OA‐related pain and physical function. These findings suggest that surgical weight loss may provide meaningful benefits for joint health in patients with obesity.

Key targets for activating anaesthesia shared decision‐making: a mixed methods systematic review

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Shared decision‐making in anaesthesia is widely endorsed yet delivered inconsistently. This mixed methods systematic review aimed to identify primary activation targets for enhancing shared decision‐making in peri‐operative anaesthesia practice. Methods Databases were searched for qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods studies

Clinical and Patient‐Reported Outcomes of the SuperPath Versus Hardinge Approach in Total Hip Replacement for Osteoarthritis: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background There are various surgical approaches for total hip replacement (THR), such as the Direct Lateral (Hardinge), anterior, and supra‐acetabular (SuperPath) approach. Substantial international variation in the cost of blood group and save and crossmatch: A systematic review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Summary Blood transfusion is one of the most common interventions in hospitals. Blood tests that support this widespread practice are considered routine, such as ‘group and save’ (also known as ‘type and screen’), yet there has been very limited evaluation of the needs for these tests and the associated costs.

Formaldehyde Emissions From 2‐Octyl Cyanoacrylate: Quantified Risk for Allergic Contact Dermatitis

open access: yesContact Dermatitis, EarlyView.
This study found that 2‐octyl cyanoacrylate skin adhesives release formaldehyde at levels up to 8.4× above EPA dermal thresholds and up to 2.41× above NIOSH airborne limits, producing exposures sufficient to provoke allergic and irritant contact dermatitis in patients.

Medullary radius as a major contributor to variance in the proximal femur: Insights from statistical shape modeling

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Workflow from CT to PCA‐based shape modeling of the proximal femoral canal (n = 763). Feature maps (size, roundness, torsion, flare, curvature) reveal sex‐ and age‐dependent patterns; three PCs capture ≈68% of variance and summarize dominant anatomical changes. Insights inform implant sizing and design envelopes in cementless THA.

Evaluating the Effect of a Sleep Prehabilitation Intervention in Patients Awaiting Elective Surgery: Protocol for a Single‐Blind Randomised Trial

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adequate sleep health is critical for surgical recovery. Disrupted sleep can impede wound healing and cognitive performance and contribute to poor surgical outcomes. Preoperative intervention aimed at improving surgical outcomes is often referred to as prehabilitation and commonly uses exercise, nutrition or psychological intervention.
