Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty
AORN Journal, 2002ABSTRACTEndoscopic visualization and pneumatically‐powered ballistic chisels that can be used to remove cement and cementless prostheses are recent developmental improvements for revision total hip arthroplasty (THA). Use of these new tools facilitates the revision procedure, reduces tissue trauma, and may reduce surgical time.

Primary total hip arthroplasty
AORN Journal, 2003TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY (THA) has been proven to decrease a patient's pain and improve function and quality of life. This procedure has been performed in the United States since 1960. Follow-up data suggest long-term success with a decreasing rate of complications and low rate of revision.

Outpatient Total Hip Arthroplasty
The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2010Patients younger than 65 years were studied to determine what percentage of patients would enroll in a study of outpatient total hip arthroplasty, its safety, and benefits of the program. Of 192 eligible patients, 69 (36%) enrolled, and 53 (77%) of these went home the same day of surgery.

A prospective study was made in 85 patients of the relationship between implantation of metal‐to‐polyethylene hip prostheses and the incidence of delayed‐type allergy to components of the prostheses. It shows that sensitization to cobalt, nickel and chromate, and to methacrylate, can develop as a result of such implantation.
