True Histiocytic Lymphoma (Monocytic Sarcoma)

The clinical, histological, immunophenotypic, and genotypic characteristics of two cases of cutaneous genuine histiocytic lymphoma are described. Both cases presented as cutaneous lesions. Both patients remain alive and free of disease at 26 and 10 months after the diagnosis and after having been treated with polychemotherapy.

Abstract: Cutaneous histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant tumor. An 82-year-old woman presented with a 4 × 2-cm irregular-shaped red nodule on the left posterior scalp. A biopsy specimen revealed sheets of pleomorphic atypical cells in the dermis and subcutis.

[Histiocytic sarcoma from phagocyting histiocytes].

Histiocytic sarcoma consisting of phagocyting histiocytes is a rare variant of histiocytic sarcoma. It is hard to detect because of its similarity with large cell lymphomas, in particular with anaplastic large cell lymphoma. Histological and immunohistochemical findings are presented.
