The normal gross and microscopic morphologic features of the ovary are described. Abnormal findings that may be encountered on microscopic examination of the ovary and that may create problems in interpretation are also discussed. The hormonal control and function of the various ovarian compartments are summarized.

Confocal laser endomicroscopy enables in vivo microscopy of the mucosal layer of the GI-tract with subcellular resolution during ongoing endoscopy. Endomicroscopy opens a new door for immediate tissue and vessel analysis. Different types of diseases can be diagnosed with optical surface and subsurface analysis. Analysis of the in vivo microarchitecture

Cytology The study of cells by means of light and electron microscopy. Cell Theory All living matter is composed of cells; all cells arise from pre-existing ones; all metabolic reactions occur within cells. Protoplasm The living contents of the cell consisting of the cytoplasm (including the cell membrane) and one or more nuclei.

Histology of the exocrine pancreas
Microscopy Research and Technique, 1997The morphology of the exocrine secretory unit of the pancreas, i.e. the pancreatic acinus, is reviewed. The histological features of the acini and their relation with the duct system are described. The acinar three-dimensional architecture was studied by means of different ultrastructural techniques, some of which are complementary.

In the previous chapter, we examined some characteristics of protein hormones, including those of the pituitary. In this chapter, we concentrate on the tissue structure of the pituitary and the relationship of this gland’s morphology to its secretions.
