Histoplasma Capsulatum in the Eye

Ophthalmology, 1984
The ocular pathologic findings in an immunosuppressed patient who died of disseminated histoplasmosis are described. Histoplasma capsulatum was found in large numbers within the endothelial cells of the choroid, in one area each of the ciliary body and trabecular meshwork. There was a minimal inflammatory response. No granulomas were noted.

Chemical composition of Histoplasma capsulatum

Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1972
The chemical composition of yeast and mycelial cells of three strains ofHistoplasma capsulatum was analyzed and is expressed as per cent dry weight. Cultures were grown in a liquid synthetic medium, mycelial cells at 25°C and yeast at 37°C on gyrotory shakers. After 7 days, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA), and protein were higher in

Immunological studies on Histoplasma capsulatum

Infection and Immunity, 1975
Alveolar macrophages freshly harvested from normal and immunized rabbits were parasitized with yeast cells and protoplasts of Histoplasma capsulatum. Macrophages obtained from either normal or sensitized rabbits failed to phagocytize protoplasts, whereas, the yeast cells were actively ingested.

Pericarditis caused by histoplasma capsulatum

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1976
Sixteen patients with pericarditis caused by Histoplasma capsulatum were studied. Fourteen were less than 30 years old, and no patient had an underlying illness or was receiving immunosuppressive therapy. All patients experienced a flu-like prodromal illness lasting from 2 weeks to 4 months.

A serendipitous isolate of Histoplasma capsulatum

Pathology, 1988
This is a report of an unexpected laboratory diagnosis of Histoplasma capsulatum. The fungus was isolated from an acute cellulitic lesion on the forearm of an elderly male patient with a functioning renal transplant. The patient resides within the environs of Brisbane and has not travelled outside Australia. We consider the isolation of H.

Nutritional studies of histoplasma capsulatum

Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1965
A chemically defined medium, composed of inorganic salts, glucose, asparagine, cystine, and a vitamin supplement, has been devised for growth of the yeast phase ofHistoplasma capsulatum. Growth in this medium was abundant and compared favorably with that in media containing complex natural material.

Histoplasma capsulatum

2012
Histoplasmosis is caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, one of the most common opportunistic infections in persons with AIDS. Varieties include Histoplasma capsulatum var capsulatum and Histoplasma capsulatum var duboisii (Histoplasma duboisii). Histoplasma capsulatum var capsulatum causes histoplasmosis in the Americas ...

Inhibition of Histoplasma capsulatum by Garlic

Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1973
The mycelial phase ofHistoplasma capsulatum was inhibited by both the volatile and water soluble components of garlic,Allium sativum L. Garlic extract at a concentration of 254 parts per billion (ppb) was inhibitory, while 8.1 parts per million (ppm) were lethal to pure cultures ofH. capsulatum. The role of garlic as an eradicent is discussed.
