May I pick your brain? Local minds as living cadastres in a Portuguese eleventh‐century lawsuit
In the context of a dispute with the monastery of Lorvão, in the late eleventh century, the monks of Vacariça, near Coimbra (modern Portugal), carried out a field enquiry in the village of Recardães. The letter is written in an allusive style and borrows heavily from its main source, Pope Vitalian’s letter to Oswiu, king of Northumbria.

We show that trait‐matching affects avian frugivory on a global scale, and hence, birds with contrasting beaks and diets respond differently to the size and lipid content of fruits. Also, morphological trait‐matching increases with latitude leading to a greater functional complementarity of small and large birds in temperate areas.
