Historical analysis of GIS

open access: yes, 1993
This paper presents an historical analysis of the GIS industry, focusing on examples from the past twenty years, and includes an introduction on the origins of GIS. Specific topics discussed are an analysis of raster and vector processing capabilities, the integration of data base management systems (DBMS) into a GIS, digital orthophoto mapping, and ...

Discovery of the compact X-ray source inside the Cygnus Loop

open access: yes, 1998
We detected an X-ray compact source inside the Cygnus Loop during the observation project of the whole Cygnus Loop with the ASCA GIS. The source intensity is 0.11 c s$^{-1}$ for GIS and 0.15 c s$^{-1}$ for SIS, which is the strongest in the ASCA band ...

Universal In Situ Isotope Exchange Raman Spectroscopy (IERS) Methodology for Measuring Oxygen Surface Exchange Dynamics Using a Probe Layer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bespoke multilayer thin film configuration has been designed, which overcomes the material dependency of conventional isotope exchange Raman spectroscopy (IERS). This universal IERS methodology is efficient, non‐destructive and provides additional structural information and time resolution, which can be further extended to various isotopic elements ...

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.
