After the collapse of the Habsburg Empire at the end of the First World War, the Entente powers saw Austro-German unification as a security threat. Consequently, Austria was established as an independent state. The new state lacked a sense of a distinct Austrian cultural and national identity.

The Turkish Historical Narrative
2015Modern Turkey was founded in 1923 on the remnants of the Ottoman Empire. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his colleagues successfully led a two-fold war against the Allied occupation on the one hand and the Ottoman Sultanate on the other.
