A Reassessment of Petrochemistry of ~1.2 Ga Tonalitic Rocks of the Northern Tugela Terrane, Natal Metamorphic Belt, South Africa: Further Constraints on the Evolution of This Belt

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Our petrochemical studies on ~1.2 Ga granitoids of the Natal Metamorphic Belt, South Africa, do not suggest any property similar to Phanerozoic‐style subduction‐related granitoids. Plot of Kotongweni Tonalite in Y versus Sr diagram (after Moyen 2011), note that most samples have Sr/Y < 50.

Early seismicity of the Scottish Borders Region

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2004
This paper considers the seismicity of Southern Scotland and Northern England up to the year 1750. This area was formerly a border area between two states that eventually became politically united.

Chromospheric seismology above sunspot umbrae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Context: The acoustic resonator is an important model for explaining the three-minute oscillations in the chromosphere above sunspot umbrae. The steep temperature gradients at the photosphere and transition region provide the cavity for the acoustic ...

Tectono‐Sedimentary Evolution of the Neogene İnegöl Basin (NW Anatolia): Constraints on Transtensional Basin Development at the Junction of the Western Anatolian Extensional Province and the North Anatolian Fault Zone

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
The study outlines the tectono‐sedimentary evolution of the İnegöl Basin in north‐western Anatolia. Basin formation was controlled by interacting extensional and strike‐slip fault systems linked to uplift of the Uludağ Massif. Terrestrial sedimentation from the Miocene to Pleistocene is reconstructed using abundant fossil mammal assemblages that ...

Post‐earthquake field assessment and damage correlation of elevated reinforced concrete water tanks in Kahramanmaras/Elbistan, Türkiye

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates the seismic performance of elevated reinforced concrete (RC) water tanks in the Elbistan region following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaras–Elbistan earthquakes. Field investigations, visual damage surveys, non‐destructive testing (ultrasonic pulse velocity—UPV), concrete compressive strength measurements, peak ground ...

Seed layer formation by deposition of micro‐crystallites on a revolving substrate. Part II: application to some nonlinear effects

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section B, EarlyView.
A method of averaging the material coefficients of crystallites deposited at an angle onto a revolving substrate isapplied to effective nonlinear dielectric, piezoelectric and elastic constants, as well as linear pyroelectric coefficients, for triclinic crystals. The matrix method of averaging material coefficients of crystallites deposited at an angle ...

Damage scenario of the earthquake on 23 July 1930 in Melfi: the contribution of technical documentation

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2004
As regards the 1930 Irpinia earthquake a detailed research both on the institutional response to the seismic event in Vulture area and reconstruction of the damage scenario for the town of Melfi has been performed.

Response of Remote Tropical West Pacific Islands to Climate Variability: A Multiproxy Record From T‐Lake, Palau, Spanning the Early Holocene to Present

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lake sediments are natural archives of past environmental dynamics and how these systems have responded to past climate variability. Sediment geochemistry, governed by local geology and climate processes, is unique to each lake‐catchment and geochemical proxies must be validated for each study site.

Crustal seismology: traditions and styles from a historical perspective

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2020
It has often been said that geophysics is an umbrella discipline, and that its various and varied fields remained conceptually autonomous even when configured in the mind of a single scientist. However, to what extent were these fields conceptually autonomous?
