Fifty years of research on the Joulters ooid sandbody—Impact on carbonate sedimentology and diagenesis and lessons learned from an invaluable analogue

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The Joulters ooid sandbody of northern Great Bahama Bank is a vast expanse of muddy ooid sands partly rimmed by clean ooid sands and formed into a relatively thick layer of significant extent. Knowledge of the development of depositional and diagenetic patterns in the Joulters example has forwarded our general understanding of carbonate sedimentology ...

The role of refluxing deep hypersaline brines and evaporite precipitation dynamics in the Castile Formation and marginal carbonate strata (Delaware Basin, USA)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
The Upper Permian Castile Formation of the Delaware Basin, a 515.3 m (1690.6 ft) thick deep‐water evaporitic sequence dominated by anhydrite and halite, is the focus of this study. This study's sedimentological and geochemical analysis of cores from the basin's centre and margin reveals that dynamic reflux of deep hypersaline brines significantly ...

Geochemical evaluation of black limestones in the Early Cretaceous platform carbonates of Gümüşhane (NE Turkey): An insight into petroleum source rock potential and palaeoenvironment conditions

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
Some layers of limestone produce some hydrocarbons, and these hydrocarbons are removed from the fractures and cracks of the rock. The organic matter (OM) contained in the limestone is a mixture of terrestrial and marine OM and is thermally immature and mature.

Nature, origin and significance of a clayey cave deposit: Relationship between karst and Oligocene/Miocene tephra (NW Dinarides)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
A limestone cave in the NW Dinarides exhibits an anomalous presence of montmorillonite clay, not commonly found in surrounding caves, posing questions about its origin and age. Analysis reveals a composition similar to weathered tephra from the Smrekovec Volcanic Complex, suggesting transport by north‐east winds.

Genesis and reservoir preservation mechanism of 10 000‐m ultradeep dolomite in Chinese craton basin

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Potential exploration target stratum of 10 000‐m ultradeep dolomite in Sichuan Basin and Tarim Basin, China. Abstract The 10 000‐m ultradeep dolomite reservoir holds significant potential as a successor field for future oil and gas exploration in China's marine craton basin.

Dynamic expression of lamin B1 during adult neurogenesis in the vertebrate brain

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background In mammals, specific brain regions such as the dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus and the subventricular zone (SVZ) of the lateral ventricles harbor adult neural stem/progenitor cells (ANSPCs) that give rise to new neurons and contribute to structural and functional brain plasticity.

The Fusion of Elemental Sulfur With Waste Cooking Oil‐Based Derivatives: Beyond Renewability

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, EarlyView.
The fuse of two waste streams, elemental sulfur and waste cooking oil, is enabled by Inverse Vulcanization. The process might ensure the closed‐loop production of polymeric materials for a wide range of applications, beyond its sole potential renewability.

Multidimensional Characterization of Formation Damage Mechanisms in Ancient Carbonate Reservoirs: Synergistic Effects of Inorganic‐Organic Interactions

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Formation clogging in carbonate gas reservoirs is a significant challenge in natural gas extraction, particularly due to the complex mineral composition and physicochemical characteristics of carbonate rocks, which make clogging phenomena even more complex. This study aims to delve into the formation mechanisms of formation plugs in carbonate

Hydrocarbon Generation Characteristics and Geological Significance of Deep Organic‐Rich Shales in the Gulong Fault Depression, Songliao Basin, Northeastern China

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT To evaluate the hydrocarbon generation characteristics and geological significance of deep‐source rocks in the Gulong Sag of the Songliao Basin and to identify the next exploration targets in the study area, this study focuses on the organic‐rich mudstones and shales from the deep formations of the Gulong Sag.
