Cryptococcus neoformans seropositivity and some haematological parameters in HIV seropositive subjects

Cryptococcus neoformans is an opportunistic fungal pathogen that causes meningitis worldwide and may be fatal in immunocompromised subjects. In Nigeria, cases have been reported with prevalence between 4 and 13.1% in Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients depending on the study subjects.

Burden and Correlates of Multiple Chronic Infections and Their Associations With Cancer Incidence in Chinese Adults: A Large Case‐Cohort Study

While several oncogenic pathogens cause site‐specific cancers, uncertainties remain about many other chronic infections and combined pathogen effects, especially in non‐Western populations. Using a large case–cohort study nested within the China Kadoorie Biobank, the authors found that co‐infection was common, with a mean of 10 pathogens per individual.

Q fever is widespread across Africa, with livestock as the primary source of human infections. Although some prevalence data exist, its economic burden is still lacking. The findings underscore the need for a One Health approach that integrates surveillance, economic assessment and control to reduce the disease burden.
