HLA-B27 antigen in women with ankylosing spondylitis.

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1976
Twenty-three (85.2%) of 27 female patients with ankylosing spondylitis were positive for HLA-B27 antigen, including 15 of 18 white women (83.3%) and eight of nine black women (88.9%).

Typing of serum-soluble HLA-B27 antigen by ELISA.

Tissue Antigens, 1993
An ELISA using serum as soluble HLA antigen source was developed for HLA-B27 typing. Two sandwich assays were run in parallel. The first assay utilized a monoclonal antibody (mAb) reacting with a determinant expressed by both HLA-B7 and B27 antigens; the

Comparison of monoclonal antibodies for flow cytometric analysis of HLA-B27 antigen. [PDF]

open access: yesCytometry, 1995
HLA-B27 is an antigen associated with the disease ankylosing spondylitis. Ninety percent of Caucasians with ankylosing spondylitis possess the HLA-B27 antigen. However, only 20% of Caucasians with the HLA-B27 antigen will develop the disease.

Association of HLA-B27 antigen with retroperitoneal fibrosis.

Journal of Urology, 1978
This is the second known case of retroperitoneal fibrosis in a middle-aged black man whose tissue type was HLA-B27 positive. The HLA-B27 antigen is present in only 4 per cent of black American male subjects and may be important in the diagnosis and management of patients with primary retroperitoneal fibrosis.
