A critical look at HLA-G

Trends in Immunology, 2008
Human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) is a nonclassical HLA class-I molecule that was found to be expressed by placental trophoblast cells 20 years ago. Because trophoblast forms the physical interface between fetus and mother, HLA-G might play a role in maternal immunological accommodation of the semi-allogeneic fetus.

The immunotolerance role of HLA-G

Seminars in Cancer Biology, 1999
HLA-G is a non-classical MHC class I molecule involved in immune tolerance. We present our results concerning the effects of HLA-G on the cellular immune response, where it impairs both NK and T cell functions. We describe the NK inhibitory properties of HLA-G ex vivo, demonstrating its role in materno-fetal tolerance, which is supported by our in ...

[HLA-G: fetomaternal tolerance].

Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie III, Sciences de la vie, 2000
HLA-G is a non-classical major histocompatibility complex class I molecule selectively expressed on cytotrophoblasts. We have demonstrated ex vivo (from voluntary pregnancy interruption samples) the protector role of the HLA-G molecule present on the surface of cytotrophoblast cells versus the lysis carried out by the decidual uterine NK cells.
