High‐Transmission Mid‐Infrared Bandpass Filters using Hybrid Metal‐Dielectric Metasurfaces for CO2 Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 13, Issue 8, March 13, 2025.
This article presents a hybrid metal‐dielectric metasurface in transmission mode for mid‐infrared (MIR) spectroscopy. Composed of germanium on aluminium cylinders atop a calcium fluoride substrate, the metasurface achieves 80% transmission efficiency at λ = 2.6 µm with a narrow full‐width‐half‐maximum of 0.4 µm.

Infrared Colloidal Quantum Dot Edge Emitting Lasers Integrated on Silicon

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, the first monolithic integration of Pb‐chalcogenide CQDs in an edge‐emitting DFB laser cavity onto a Si/SiO2 substrate has been demonstrated. The optimizations of SiO2 layer thickness, engineering of the grating duty cycle, and implementing λ/4 phase shift resulted in the achievement of spectrally pure, single‐mode lasing at 1650 nm with ...

Tensor structure for Nori motives

open access: yes, 2019
We construct a tensor product on Freyd's universal abelian category attached to an additive tensor category or a tensor quiver and establish a universal property.

Inverse‐Designed on‐Chip Terahertz Three‐Channel Mode and Wavelength Division Demultiplexer

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
An ultracompact terahertz demultiplexer is developed using a hybrid inverse design that combines genetic algorithms with topology optimization. The device enables simultaneous mode‐ and wavelength‐division multiplexing within a footprint smaller than two wavelengths.

“One More for Luck”: The Destruction of U971 by HMCS Haida and HMS Eskimo, 24 June 1944 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
On the evening of 23 June 1944, HMCS Haida and HMS Eskimo set out from Plymouth, operational base of the 10th Destroyer Flotilla (10th DF), to conduct a sweep of the Western Approaches to the English Channel.

Long‐Term Effects of Xenotransplantation of Human Enteric Glia in an Immunocompetent Rat Model of Acute Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Acute brain injuries are characterized by extensive tissue damage, resulting in debilitating deficits in patients. Despite considerable progress, cell‐based approaches have yet to identify an ideal candidate. This long‐term study explores the use of an untested cell source – human enteric glia – and a non‐invasive administration route – intranasal ...

Modelling rainfall runoff relations using HEC-HMS in a semi-arid region: Case study in Ain Sefra watershed, Ksour Mountains (SW Algeria)

open access: yes, 2018
Ain Sefra is one of the Algerian cities that had been experienced several devastating floods during the past 100 years. The purpose of this study is to simulate runoff in the semi-arid region of Ain Sefra watershed through the employing of the Hydrologic

Modifying Glucose Metabolism Reverses Memory Defects of Alzheimer's Disease Model at Late Stages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using spatial transcriptomics, we show that ferul enanthate (SL‐ZF‐01) reverses episodic‐like memory deficits in aged, but not young, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) mice. SL restores glucose metabolism and Glucose Transporter 1/3 expression via an ‘Aging‐AD‐Rescue’ pattern, rescuing deficits seen in aged AD mice.

Chromatin Topology Reconfiguration Orchestrates Thermotolerant Male Fertility via GhAL5 in Cotton

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates cotton’s high‐temperature (HT) response using multi‑omics. Dynamic 3D genome changes drive expression bias affecting male fertility. The tolerant line shows controlled chromatin dynamics, while the sensitive line exhibits overactivation.

Schiff base-functionalized mesoporous silicas (MCM-41, HMS) as Pb(II) adsorbents

open access: yes, 2018
Three Schiff base-functionalized mesoporous silicas: MCM-41@salen, HMS-C12@salen and HMS-C16@salen have been synthesized by a post-synthetic grafting strategy and their sorption capacities toward Pb(II) from synthetic aqueous solutions have been assessed.
