High power thin disk Ho:YAG laser
SPIE Proceedings, 2011The thin disk laser is a successful concept for high output power and/or high pulse energy, high efficiency and good beam quality in the 1 μm range. Holmium-doped materials are a promising approach to transform this success to the 2 μm range. Ho:YAG is especially interesting for high pulse energies due to the long fluorescence lifetime (~ 8 ms ...

21 μm composite Tm/Ho:YAG laser
Optics Letters, 2018We realize Ho laser operation in a composite Tm/Ho:YAG gain medium for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, which was integrated via diffusion bonding the Tm-doped and Ho-doped crystals into a single bulk structure. A maximum output power around 6 W was obtained with a slope efficiency of 40.1% and conversion efficiency (CE) of 33.6% from the ...

The efficient, high energy Ho:YAG lasers can be resonantly pumped by Tm:crystalline lasers (see e.g. [1]) or applying hybrid concept with Tm:fiber lasers [2,3]. The aim of this work was to examine feasibility of tuneable work of compact hybrid laser based on Ho:YAG crystal pumped by Tm:fiber laser.

Solar-pumped Er,Tm,Ho:YAG laser
Optics Letters, 1990Direct solar illumination was used to pump a 5-mm-diameter 62-mm exposed-length rod of Er,Tm,Ho:YAG to achieve a quasi-cw lasing of the Ho ion at an average power of 12 W. The solar radiation was chopped at a 20% duty cycle to avoid overloading of the cooling system. The peak power output was more than 65 W during the chopper's open times.

A high efficiency laser diode array pumped Nd:YAG solid-state laser has recently been demonstrated.1 We report for the first time a diode array pumped rare-earth laser other than Nd. Laser action was observed on the trivalent holmium 5/7 → 5/8, 2.1-μm transition.

Resonantly pumped high efficiency Ho:YAG laser
Applied Optics, 2012High-efficient CW and Q-switched Ho:YAG lasers resonantly dual-end-pumped by two diode-pumped Tm:YLF lasers at 1908 nm were investigated. A maximum slope efficiency of 74.8% in CW operation as well as a maximum output power of 58.7 W at 83.2 W incident pump power was achieved, which corresponded to an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 70.6 ...
