Method for Increasing Tool Life in Hobbing (MITL-Hobbing)

There have been different approaches to utilising the whole length of the hob in order to increase its tool life: diagonal hobbing and conventional shifting. When diagonal hobbing or shifting is used many teeth are not completely worn out but must neverthless be resharpened along with the other teeth which have reached the tool wear criterion.

About Hob Idle Distance in Gear Hobbing Operation

This study is focused on some features of geometry and kinematics of gear hobbing operation. The principal goal is to determine minimal hob idle distance required for complete generation of the gear teeth. This task is of importance in two aspects: to cut hobbing time and to reduce axial size of a hobbed cluster gear, gear with shoulder etc.
