The Newtonian potential of thin disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The one-dimensional, ordinary differential equation (ODE) by Hur\'e & Hersant (2007) that satisfies the midplane gravitational potential of truncated, flat power-law disks is extended to the whole physical space.

Determination of the optimal shape of matrix elements partitioning on three abstract heterogeneous processors

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2020
The paper presents the results of a study done to find the optimal shapes of matrix element partitioning on three abstract heterogeneous processors when performing multiplication operations.

Defect free global minima in Thomson's problem of charges on a sphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Given $N$ unit points charges on the surface of a unit conducting sphere, what configuration of charges minimizes the Coulombic energy $\sum_{i>j=1}^N 1/r_{ij}$?

A New Parallel N-body Gravity Solver: TPM [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
We have developed a gravity solver based on combining the well developed Particle-Mesh (PM) method and TREE methods. It is designed for and has been implemented on parallel computer architectures.

Between a Rock and a Blue Chair: David Hockney’s Rocky Mountains and Tired Indians (1965)

open access: yesBritish Art Studies, 2017
Travel and cultural exchange between the United Kingdom and the United States of America became a key feature of the 1960s, shaping the world view of many a British artist, curator, architect, writer, film-maker, and academic. Against that wider backdrop,

A Bigger Splash to the Narrative

open access: yesÉtudes Ricoeuriennes / Ricoeur Studies, 2018
The objective of this article is to offer an example of a work of art identified with what Paul Ricœur named polysemy or linguistic density. Some works of art exemplify a metaphoricity in their constitution and the metaphor would be a privileged model ...

Using Perturbative Least Action to Recover Cosmological Initial Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We introduce a new method for generating initial conditions consistent with highly nonlinear observations of density and velocity fields. Using a variant of the Least Action method, called Perturbative Least Action (PLA), we show that it is possible to ...

Solar Wind Ion Entry Into the Magnetosphere During Northward IMF

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 124, Issue 7, Page 5461-5481, July 2019., 2019
Abstract Extended periods of northward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) lead to the formation of a cold, dense plasma sheet due to the entry of solar wind plasma into the magnetosphere. Identifying the paths that the solar wind takes to enter the magnetosphere, and their relative importance has remained elusive.

Efficient and accurate three dimensional Poisson solver for surface problems

open access: yes, 2007
We present a method that gives highly accurate electrostatic potentials for systems where we have periodic boundary conditions in two spatial directions but free boundary conditions in the third direction.

Moduli space of Chaudhuri-Hockney-Lykken strings [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 1995
We discuss an orbifold of the toroidally compactified heterotic string which gives a global reduction of the dimension of the moduli space while preserving the supersymmetry. This construction yields the moduli space of the first of a series of reduced rank theories with maximal supersymmetry discovered recently by Chaudhuri, Hockney, and Lykken.
