Statistics of Weak Gravitational Lensing in Cold Dark Matter Models; Magnification Bias on Quasar Luminosity Functions [PDF]
We compute statistical properties of weak gravitational lensing by large-scale structure in three Cold Dark Matter models. We use a P$^3$M $N$-body code to simulate the formation and evolution of large-scale structure in the universe.

Further Precise Determinations of $\alpha_s$ from Lattice QCD
We present a new determination of the strong coupling constant from lattice QCD simulations. We use four different short-distance quantities to obtain the coupling, three different (infrared) meson splittings to tune the simulation parameters, and a wide

Why charges go to the surface: a generalized Thomson problem
We study a generalization of a Thomson problem of n particles confined to a sphere and interacting by a 1/r^g potential. It is found that for g \le 1 the electrostatic repulsion expels all the charges to the surface of the sphere.

David Hockney’s Early Etchings: Going Transatlantic and Being British
David Hockney’s early autobiographical prints, My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean 1961 and the series A Rake’s Progress 1961–3, are examined in relation to contemporary developments in American art and literature, the artist’s affinities with his British ...

A New Technique for Measuring the Strangemess Content of the Proton on the Lattice
A new technique for computing the strangeness content of the proton on the lattice is described. It is applied to the calculation of the strange quark contribution to the proton's spin, specifically to the evaluation of the proton matrix element of the ...

Superconducting linear actuator [PDF]
Special actuators are needed to control the orientation of large structures in space-based precision pointing systems. Electromagnetic actuators that presently exist are too large in size and their bandwidth is too low.

How to mesh up Ewald sums (II): An accurate error estimate for the P3M algorithm
We construct an accurate estimate for the root mean square force error of the particle-particle-particle-mesh (P3M) algorithm by extending a single particle pair error measure which has been given by Hockney and Eastwood.

Solution of partial differential equations on vector and parallel computers [PDF]
The present status of numerical methods for partial differential equations on vector and parallel computers was reviewed. The relevant aspects of these computers are discussed and a brief review of their development is included, with particular attention
