AGRICULTURE IN A SOCIALIST CITY: Towards an Alter‐Urban Political Ecology

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Urban political ecology has developed as a critique of capitalist urbanization. This article develops the concept of alter‐urban political ecology to define urban environments emerging not from capitalist urbanization but from efforts to transform it. Drawing on archival research and ethnographic fieldwork in five urban farms in socialist Cuba,

Managing Sonchus arvensis using mechanical and cultural methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Perennial sow-thistle (Sonchus arvensis L.) represents an increasing problem in Finland. Options for mechanical and cultural control of S. arvensis were studied in a field experiment on clay soil under organic production.

Dealing With Inbuilt Age: A Bayesian Approach to Radiocarbon Dating of Rice, Bamboo and Charcoal From Non Ban Jak, Thailand

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT New radiocarbon determinations from rice grains and bamboo have been obtained from Non Ban Jak, Northeast Thailand. These, along with charcoal, date a late Iron Age building sequence. The results come from short‐lived species and charcoal with potential inbuilt age. We built a series of Bayesian models to obtain a reliable chronology.

Three mechanical weed control techniques in spring cereals

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
An inter-row hoe suitable for cereals was developed for the study, and field experiments were conducted to compare inter-row hoeing with weed harrowing, rotary hoeing and chemical control.

Association Between Oral Lichen Planus and Non‐Oral Cancers: A Multicentre Case–Control SIPMO Study

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives This multicentre case–control study aimed to investigate the potential association between oral lichen planus (OLP) and extraoral cancers. The secondary objective included the identification of risk factors for this association. Methods The study was conducted between January 2023 and June 2024 and included 21 Italian Oral Medicine ...

Effect of Row Spacing and Frequency of Weeding on Weed Infestation, Yield Components, and Yield of Rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Bench Maji Zone, Southwestern Ethiopia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agronomy, 2022
A field experiment was conducted in Bench Maji Zone at Guraferda district during the 2020 main cropping season to assess the effect of row spacing and frequency of weeding on weeds, yield components, and yield of rice and to estimate the economic ...

Inter-row hoeing for weed control in organic spring cereals – interactions with inter-row spacing and nitrogen rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Inter-row hoeing has become increasingly important for weed control in organic spring cereals since the introduction of automatic steering systems. The technology requires a widening of current inter-row spacing for spring cereals in order to provide ...

Root surface biomodification in periodontal therapy: Biological rationale and clinical applications

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Regenerative periodontal therapy aims to form new cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone, all sealed by gingival tissue. The root surface acts as the wound margin during this regeneration process. Root surface biomodification (root conditioning/root decontamination), therefore, seems instrumental in promoting surface decontamination

Band-steaming reduces laborious hand-weeding in vegetables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Band-steaming is a new method that may reduce the need for hand-weeding in demanding row crops like carrot and drilled onion. Band-steaming only affects a soil volume equal to the intra-row area of the subsequent crop, and effectively kills the weed ...
