Viaje a Macondo: A propósito de "La Hojarasca"

open access: yes, 1964

Inverse effects of soil moisture and litter quality on litter decomposition along a gradient from hyper‐arid to temperate climate

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
We hypothesized that litter decomposition (H1) and litter quality (H2) increase with increasing soil humidity, therefore litter from the wetter sites to have the highest litter quality and decompose fastest in each site, and fastest on the wet end of the gradient (H3).

Can induced drying modulate the response of leaf litter decomposition and fungal diversity to wastewater effluents in permanent streams?

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3543-3555, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Watercourses are among the most threatened ecosystems globally and face multiple anthropogenic stressors of different origins and intensities that reduce biodiversity and disrupt ecosystem functioning.

Contrasting effects of vertebrate and invertebrate herbivores on leaf litter decomposition in terrestrial ecosystems: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 12, Page 3372-3384, December 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Herbivores influence litter quality, soil properties and decomposer communities, with cascading effects on litter decomposition. Vertebrate and invertebrate herbivores can affect decomposition through the same two pathways (litter quality‐ and soil‐mediated) but are ...

open access: yesEcosistemas y Recursos Agropecuarios, 2018

Navigating the seven seas of arthropod collection protocols: Metabarcoding arthropod diversity in a tropical forest

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, Page 2395-2407, October 2025.
Abstract Insects and other arthropods represent one of the most diverse groups of life on Earth, with an estimated 70% of species awaiting discovery. Advances in DNA‐based tools have accelerated species discovery, while high‐throughput sequencing has enabled large‐scale biodiversity surveys.

Increasingly conservative N cycling in a wet tropical forest: Litter and stream N concentrations decline over 29 years despite surges from hurricanes

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 9, Page 2476-2496, September 2025.
Conceptual model integrating short‐ and long‐term responses of N in litterfall and stream water in a wet tropical forest subject to hurricanes. Despite N surges following hurricanes, N cycling becomes more conservative in the absence of frequent hurricanes.

Hurricane‐induced changes in mayfly assemblage structure, production and emergence in a tropical island stream Cambios inducidos por los huracanes en la estructura, producción, y emergencia del ensamblaje de Ephemeroptera de una quebrada de isla tropical

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 201-213, February 2025.
Hurricanes create major disturbances to stream ecosystems by producing large floods and removing riparian vegetation. Understanding their impacts is a priority, as hurricane intensity will increase with global climate change. Hurricane disturbance shifts mayfly assemblages from dominance by Leptophlebiidae before to Baetidae after.

open access: yesLetras (Lima), 1967
