Principles for Rigorous Design and Application of Synthetic Microbial Communities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SynComs are artificially designed to enable inter‐species metabolic interactions, metabolic division of labor, and ecological interactions that can elicit phenotypes like colonization stability and environmental adaptation. This systematic review explores the processes used to construct SynComs, the assessment of the mechanisms of metabolic interaction

4. Holiday Convergences, Holiday Divergences

open access: yes, 2019
Chapter 4, by Luděk Brož and Habeck, compares late-Soviet versus present-day expectations of holiday-making and the use of tourism infrastructure, with the aim of assessing the shifting norms of what is desired when one is away from home. Partly, these shifts involve new interpretations of ethnic difference as a resource in tourism, as the display of ...

What stops practitioners discussing medication breaks in children and adolescents with ADHD? Identifying barriers through theory-driven qualitative research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
National and international guidelines on the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents call for annual reviews to assess continuing need for medication by considering brief periods without medication ...

Targeting the CMKLR1‐Mediated Signaling Rebalances Immunometabolism State in Middle‐Age Testicular Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In middle age, testicular CMKLR1⁺ macrophages exhibited a pro‐inflammatory immunometabolic profile, mediated by adipose signals associated with high BMI. However, inhibition of CMKLR1 signaling, either through Cmklr1 genetic ablation or treatment with a CMKLR1 antagonist peptide, can reverse this phenotype.

Mitigating the Rock‐Salt Phase Transformation in Disordered LNMO Through Synergetic Solid‐State AlF3/LiF Modifications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The transition between the spinel and rock‐salt phases induces irreversible structural changes in disordered LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, thereby preventing it from fully releasing its electrochemical capacity during charge/discharge cycling. Abstract High‐voltage disordered spinel LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 is a promising cathode material for high power density in lithium‐ion

Keeping in touch – A benefit of public holidays using time use diary data [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper argues that public holidays facilitate the co-ordination of leisure time but do not constrain the annual amount of leisure. Public holidays therefore have benefits both in the utility of leisure on holidays and (by enabling people to maintain ...

Direct Probing of Trap Dynamics in β‐Ga2O3 Schottky Barrier Diodes Using Single‐Voltage‐Pulse Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A single‐pulse approach uncovers trap dynamics in β‐Ga2O3 Schottky barrier diodes. Transient current profiling reveals rapid electron capture, delayed trap filling, and clear thermal effects. Extracted trap densities, capture time constants, and activation energies indicate that this simple pulse technique enables effective evaluation of trap states ...
