Research on microstructure evolution of the three-roll skew rolling hollow axle

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2021
To optimize the comprehensive mechanical performance of the rolled piece in three-roll skew rolling (TRSR), a more exquisite and uniform microstructure of the rolled piece must be obtained. In this paper, the evolution laws of the microstructure are obtained by exploring the forming process of TRSR hollow axles.

Analysis and design of cross wedge rolling hollow axle sleeve with mandrel

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2017
Abstract Axle sleeves are important parts of the drive axle for truck and construction machinery, and their large demand requires an efficient production process. Cross wedge rolling axle sleeves with mandrel can save material and enhance efficiency; however, axial movement and ovality are common problems if no stub bars are expected when hollow ...

Railcar Hollow Axle

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The growing Brazilian railroad industry is searching ways to decrease the railcar weight. Just in this way the V&amp;M do Brasil developed the railcar hollow axle through modern material and manufacture technologies. It is up to 40% lighter than the equivalent conventional solid axle.

Eddy current system for inspection of train hollow axles

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
The structural integrity of wheelsets used in rolling stock is of great importance to the safety. In this paper, electromagnetic system with an eddy current transducer suitable for the inspection of hollow axles have been presented. The transducer was developed to detect surface braking defects having depth not smaller than 0.5 mm. Ultrasound technique

Electromagnetic system for nondestructive evaluation of train hollow axles

2013 Far East Forum on Nondestructive Evaluation/Testing: New Technology and Application, 2013
The structural integrity of train axles is one of the important factors for safety precautions in a railway industry. Most common techniques used nowadays in the railway industry for manual inspection are visual and magnetic particle techniques as well as ultrasound testing.

Simulation analysis of ultrasonic inspection of hollow axle with different segments

2015 International Conference on Control, Automation and Robotics, 2015
Hollow axle has replaced the traditional solid axle in high-speed trains due to the increased operational speed. The ultrasonic inspection on hollow axles must be conducted to ensure the safe operation of high-speed trains. The hollow axle can be artificially divided into different segment based on the shape and size of different axle segments ...

The influence of coupling layer thickness on hollow axles ultrasonic testing

2015 International Conference on Control, Automation and Robotics, 2015
The thickness of coupling layer between the hollow axle inner wall and the probe wedge may vary during actual ultrasonic inspection. To study the influence of coupling layer thickness on the hollow ultrasonic inspection, the simulation models with different probe angles and different thicknesses of coupling layer were established with COMSOL ...

Numerical Simulation for Thick-Walled Hollow Axle during Cross Wedge Rolling

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The paper investigates a process of cross wedged rolling (CWR) for manufacturing thick-walled hollow axles. A finite element numerical model coupled deformation and heat transfer of CWR is established using commercial finite element software DEFORM-3D. The rolling process of hollow axle during CWR is simulated successfully.
