Simulation-based analysis of thermal bridge reduction in multi-storey residential buildings of Bangladesh using recycled plastic waste insulation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
In tropical climates such as Bangladesh, thermal bridging through wall-floor junctions increases indoor cooling demands and exacerbates energy shortages. Concurrently, uncontrolled plastic waste generation has become a major environmental issue.

Mechanical Properties of Concrete and Hollow Concrete Blocks Containing Steel and Nylon Fibres

open access: yesInternational Journal of Engineering and Advanced Technology, 2019
An attempt has been made in this paper to study the effect on the mechanical properties of the concrete and hollow concrete block when different types of fibres were added to the mix. The two different types of fibres added include Steel fibres with hooked end and of length 60mm at five different fibre ratios of 2.5%, 2.75%, 3.0%, 3.25% and 3.5% and ...

Sex‐Specific Atlantic Salmon Upstream Passage and Fallback at a Natural Cascade After Dam Removal

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In the Boquet River (NY, USA) a low‐head dam set above a ~200‐m bedrock cascade was removed in 2015. We used radio‐telemetry to assess landlocked Atlantic salmon passage at the remaining cascade (2020, 2022). Across years, 52% of males (13/25) attempted cascade passage whereas females made no discernable attempts (0/11).

Experimental Study on the Strengthening Mechanism of Modified Coal Gangue Concrete and Mechanical Properties of Hollow Block Masonry

open access: yesBuildings
To enhance the utilization efficiency of coal gangue aggregate, coarse aggregates are chemically modified with 5% sodium silicate solution. The effects of this modification on the compressive strength and microstructural characteristics of concrete are ...

The Epistemic Harms of Botched Apologies for Past Wrongs

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Apologies often create expectations of meaningful change and repair. Yet when institutions or states deliver apologies for past wrongs that lack substantive reparative action, they risk deepening, rather than redressing, the harms they acknowledge.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Hollow Concrete Block Infilled Reinforced Concrete Buildings

open access: yes, 2019
Masonry infills are usually treated as non-structural elements in buildings, and their interaction with the bounding frame is often ignored in analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures. Nature, however, makes no such distinction, and tests the whole building under simulated ground motions and so that many non-structural components may be ...

Absent Europe: Civic Protest and the Erosion of EU Symbolism in Serbia

open access: yesJCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, EarlyView.
Abstract This article analyses the strategic management of European Union (EU) references in Serbia's 2024–2025 student mobilisation. Drawing on original fieldwork and 18 semi‐structured interviews, the article integrates framing theory with the Discourse‐Historical Approach to reconstruct how EU‐related meanings were produced and operationalised.
