Fabrication of porous hollow glass microspheres

Journal of Power Sources, 2011
Abstract Porous hollow glass microspheres have many uses, including porosity enhancers for lead-acid batteries. A fast, facile and high yield synthetic method for fabricating porous hollow glass microspheres with diameters around 45–55 μm is demonstrated.

Silicon rubber/hollow glass microsphere composites: Influence of broken hollow glass microsphere on mechanical and thermal insulation property

Composites Science and Technology, 2013
Abstract Hollow glass microsphere (HGM), as one kind of novel inorganic material, is widely used. Its most obvious feature is the hollow structure which brings excellent heat isolation property and light density. However in practice, the fracture of the HGM is inevitable and there are no enough systematic studies about the influence of broken HGM as ...

Uniaxial quasistatic and dynamic compressive response of foams made from hollow glass microspheres

open access: yesJournal of the European Ceramic Society, 2016
This study investigates the effects of the size of hollow glass microspheres (20 μm vs. 40 μm) and composition on the energy absorption capacity of the silicate glass foams under both the quasistatic (∼10⁻³ s⁻¹) and high-strain rate (∼10³ s⁻¹) loading ...

Concrete with Addition of Hollow Glass Microspheres

Materials Science Forum, 2015
The addition of hollow glass spheres is interesting to reduce the thermal conductivity of the concrete pieces. This work aims to evaluate the concrete with addition of hollow glass microsphere with different combinations of dosage in concrete concerning strength and workability. Slump tests were performed in each dosage of concrete in order to evaluate

Hollow glass microspheres for temperature and irradiance control in photobioreactors

Bioresource Technology, 2014
The addition of hollow glass microspheres (HGM) to polymers to change thermal insulation and mechanical properties is widely used. In this study HGM were tested as a new construction material for photobioreactors to control irradiance and broth temperature in microalgae cultivation.

Mechanical Testing of Glass Hollow Microspheres

1983
Glass hollow microspheres are used in a number of applications that require their introduction into a matrix material through a variety of mixing operations. In order to survive this processing, the spheres must be able to withstand tremendous pressures. To characterize the strength of the microspheres as well as a comprehensive understanding of sphere

Synthesis and characterization of hollow glass–ceramics microspheres

Ceramics International, 2011
Abstract Hollow glass–ceramics microspheres (HGCMs), with the diameter from 10 to 60 μm and the shell thickness less than 2 μm, were successfully fabricated by a simple technique using polyacrylamide microspheres (PAMs) as template. The corresponding HGCM were obtained after a thermal treatment of the core–shell microspheres, which were synthesized ...

Hollow glass microspheres for use in radiation shielding

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 2006
Abstract The production of hollow glass microspheres from Li2O–Al2O3–B2O3 glasses was investigated. The production of hollow, rather than solid, spheres is enabled by the use of blowing agents in the glass, such as sulfate compounds. Irregular glass frit (25–100 μm in diameter) was fed into a propane/oxygen torch and spherodized.
