Manufacturing of hollow transmission shafts via bulk-metal forging
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1997Abstract More and more hollow transmission shafts are used in all vehicle gears as a result of the demand of light components. Different methods of bulk-metal forging are shown partially in combination with joining and machining processes. They will be discussed with reference to shaping, tolerances and economical aspects.

Grinding Characteristics of Carbon Fiber Epoxy Composite Hollow Shafts
Journal of Composite Materials, 2000Since carbon fiber epoxy composite materials have excellent structural properties due to their high specific strength, high modulus, high damping and low thermal expansion, composite hollow shafts have been widely used for power transmission shafts for motor vehicles, spindles for machine tools, and rollers for thin film processing.

Analysis of buckling of hollow laminated composite drive shafts
Composites Science and Technology, 1995Abstract Laminated composite, circular cylindrical hollow shafts are used extensively as primary load-carrying structures in many applications under various loading configurations. Advanced composite materials also seem ideally suited for long, power drive-shaft applications.

Critical speed analysis of laminated composite, hollow drive shafts
Composites Engineering, 1993Abstract A theoretical analysis is presented for determining the critical speeds of a rotating circular cylindrical hollow shaft with layers of arbitrarily laminated composite materials by means of the thin-and thick-shell theories. The theory used is the dynamic analog of the Sanders best first approximation shell theory.

Hollow shaft integrated health monitoring system for railroad wheels
SPIE Proceedings, 2005The economic efficiency and competitiveness of environment-friendly rail transportation depends on safety, availability and maintenance of single highly loaded structure components. Until now these components have been changed in fixed maintenance intervals irrespective of any usage related conditions. With the knowledge and evaluation of the component

Optimisation of the torsional rigidity of axisymmetric hollow shafts
International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1982Abstract The torsional rigidity of an elastic axisymmetric hollow shaft of prescribed length and internal cross-section is maximised by appeal to the Calculus of Variations. This optimisation is with respect to variation of the outer curved surface of the shaft, subject to the isoperimetric constraint that its volume remains fixed.

Numerical Modeling of Cross — Wedge Rolling of Hollowed Shafts
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2004In this article, the results of numerical calculations and experimental work of the cross‐wedge rolling (CWR) processes of hollowed shafts, realized with mandrels and without them, are presented. The results of numerical calculations for the CWR process of three rolls were also provided. On the basis of the calculations it was stated that the method of

Torsional stress concentration factor for hollow stepped shafts
2022In this investigation the stress concentration factor was evaluated for a hollow stepped shaft with variable wall thickness and two fillet sizes. Electric strain gages of the SR-4 type were employed to measure strains in the fillet section. Values of the stress concentration factor were determined with the ratio of inside to outside diameter ranging ...
