The pyrolysis behaviors of nine biomass-derived holocelluloses (from seven agricultural and two forestry residues) were studied on a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (Py-GC/MS). The results illustrated that compared with forestry holocellulose, agricultural holocellulose had quite high ash and ...

Canadian Journal of Research, 1948
Holocelluloses have been prepared in substantially quantitative yields from extractive-free straws of wheat, oats, barley, rye, and flax by acid chlorite treatments. Estimation of the pentosan, uronic acid anhydride, Cross and Bevan cellulose, and acetyl contents of the recovered holocelluloses showed that little loss of carbohydrate material had ...

DETERMINATION OF CELLULOSE IN STRAW HOLOCELLULOSE
Canadian Journal of Research, 1949Hydrolysis of wheat, oat, rye, and flax holocelluloses with 0.5% sulphuric acid for one hour at 100 °C. gave a residue that was quantitatively equal to the Cross and Bevan cellulose from the same straws. The hydrolyzed holocellulose residue contained more lignin and less pentosan than the corresponding Cross and Bevan cellulose but 'pure' cellulose ...

Twisting energy of holocellulose fibers
Journal of Polymer Science Part C: Polymer Symposia, 1971AbstractFreely drying fibers exhibit collapse and twist behavior that is only infrequently observed in the formation of a paper web. Anisotropic fiber shrinkage models are employed that enable calculation of the twisting energy of a freely drying fiber as well as the reverse case (dry to wet).

Isolation and Characterization of Holocellulose from Alfalfa
Applied Biochemistry and Microbiology, 2002Holocellulose isolated from the aerial parts of alfalfa (Medicago sativa) contains a polysaccharide complex of cellulose and hemicelluloses, the major structural components of cell walls. Holocellulose is highly hydrophilic and has a dense biopolymer packing.
