Cyborgs, Robots, Avatars and Holograms in Performing Arts Affect Audience Reception

open access: yesStudia Semiotyczne
“To dance is human” (Hanna, 1979), but dancers on stage may be cyborgs, robots, avatars, or holograms. The boundaries between these creatures and their creators are sometimes blurred (voluntarily or not).

Neural Network–Assisted Metasurface Retroreflector With Wide‐Angle Adaptivity

open access: yesElectron, EarlyView.
This work proposes a wide‐angle, multi‐polarization, self‐sensing, and self‐adaptive intelligent metasurface retroreflector, with a planar profile and ultrathin thickness. By integrating a pre‐trained artificial neural network (ANN), the metasurface retroreflector can recognize the incident angle and promptly adapt to changes in the incoming wave.

Diffraction efficiency of localized holograms in doubly doped LiNbO3 crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The diffraction efficiency of M holograms superimposed in the volume of the recording medium is proportional to 1/M^2. We present a method, based on nondestructive localized holograms in a doubly doped LiNbO3 crystal, that allows us to also record M ...

Review of millimeter‐wave and terahertz near‐field synthetic aperture radar imaging technology

open access: yesInfoScience, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper comprehensively reviews the development of millimeter‐wave (MMW) and terahertz (THz) near‐field imaging technologies, with an emphasis on the state of synthetic aperture radar (SAR)‐based imaging technologies. Near‐field imaging technologies are categorized into passive and active imaging modes, among which active imaging is favored

Femtosecond laser direct nanolithography of perovskite hydration for temporally programmable holograms

open access: yesNature Communications
Modern nanofabrication technologies have propelled significant advancement of high-resolution and optically thin holograms. However, it remains a long-standing challenge to tune the complex hologram patterns at the nanoscale for temporal light field ...

The Illusion of Structural Order: Evaluating the Suppression of Amorphous Carbon Black Pigment Bands in SSE‐Processed Handheld Raman Spectra

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
The handheld Raman with SSE system efficiently mitigates fluorescence; however, it may also bias the Raman response towards graphitic domains in carbon‐based black pigments, thereby concealing amorphous carbon contributions that are critical for pigment type identification.
