Bridging Optical and Mechanical Metamaterial/Metasurface Realms Toward Integrated Meta‐Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective describes the rise of metamaterials in the field of materials science, specifically with optical and mechanical functionality. Fundamentals of both optical and mechanical metamaterials are discussed with a review of state‐of‐the‐art metamaterial science.

Phase-locked sustainment of photorefractive holograms using phase conjugation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A method for sustaining multiply exposed photorefractive holograms, in a phase-locked fashion, by using a pair of phase-conjugating mirrors is described.

Photochromic Diarylethene‐doped SU‐8 for Rewritable Optics and Integrated Photonic Switching

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A CMOS‐compatible photochromic host–guest material platform is realized by incorporating diarylethene molecules into SU‐8 photoresist. Reversible photoisomerization enables light‐programmable optical absorption, allowing rewritable optical patterning and port‐selective attenuation in integrated waveguides.

Full-color, large area, transmissive holograms enabled by multi-level diffractive optics

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
We show that multi-level diffractive microstructures can enable broadband, on-axis transmissive holograms that can project complex full-color images, which are invariant to viewing angle. Compared to alternatives like metaholograms, diffractive holograms

Experimental Quantum Cryptography with Qutrits

open access: yes, 2005
We produce two identical keys using, for the first time, entangled trinary quantum systems (qutrits) for quantum key distribution. The advantage of qutrits over the normally used binary quantum systems is an increased coding density and a higher security

Absorbing new subjects: holography as an analog of photography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
I discuss the early history of holography and explore how perceptions, applications, and forecasts of the subject were shaped by prior experience. I focus on the work of Dennis Gabor (1900–1979) in England,Yury N. Denisyuk (1927-2005) in the Soviet Union,

Harnessing Ultrafast Optical Pulses for 3D Microfabrication by Selective Tweezing and Immobilization of Colloidal Particles in an Integrated System

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 5, May 2025.
Microfabrication using nano‐ to micron‐sized blocks has transformative potential for next‐gen electronics, optoelectronics, and materials. Traditional methods are limited by scalability and precision. STIC, a single‐laser system for precise colloid manipulation and immobilization using femtosecond lasers, is introduced that enables efficient 3D ...

An Open‐Source Pipeline for Calcium Imaging and All‐Optical Physiology in Human Stem Cell‐Derived Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces an open‐source all‐optical platform for functional phenotyping of human stem cell‐derived neurons. The system integrates optogenetics, calcium imaging, automated acquisition, and analysis to resolve single‐cell and network activity, enabling longitudinal measurements, disease modeling, and pharmacological screening in preclinical ...

Ultrathin Acoustic Metasurface Holograms with Arbitrary Phase Control

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Holograms show great potential in optical or acoustical waves applications due to their capability to reconstruct images. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme to realize acoustic holograms based on an ultrathin metasurface with arbitrary phase ...
