Holographic optical tweezers in the Fresnel regime
SPIE Proceedings, 2004We present a flexible setup for steering of laser tweezers using a high resolution spatial light modulator (SLM). Moving of e.g. trapped cells in the focal plane of the microscope objective is possible without the need for time consuming re-calculation of holograms.

Laser Tweezers and Holographic Optical Trapping
Optics and Photonics News, 2009Tractor beams have long been a staple of science fiction, and now they have a real-life equivalent on the micro-scale. Laser tweezers can trap and hold tiny objects in three dimensions and may one day be used to manufacture micro- and nano-scale products.

Digital holographic microscopy combined with optical tweezers
SPIE Proceedings, 2011While optical tweezers have been widely used for the manipulation and organization of microscopic objects in three dimensions, observing the manipulated objects along axial direction has been quite challenging. In order to visualize organization and orientation of objects along axial direction, we report development of a Digital holographic ...

Tunable photonic crystals by holographic optical tweezers
SPIE Proceedings, 2016We demonstrate experimentally, an optically controlled dynamic photonic bandgap material, and to characterize its properties. The PhC device consists of colloidal particles assembled, using Holographic Optical Tweezers, into periodic structures located between prepositioned optical fibers. The positions of the optical traps can be modified in-situ in a

Improving Spot Uniformity in Holographic Optical Tweezers
Optics in the Life Sciences, 2011We have developed a method for compensating for crosstalk between adjacent pixels in liquid crystal based spatial light modulators. The method decreases the uniformity error of the trap intensities in holographic optical tweezers (HOT) systems.

Controlled aerosol manipulation using holographic optical tweezers
SPIE Proceedings, 2006We demonstrate the use of holographic optical tweezers for the optical trapping and manipulation of arrays of airborne water droplets (aerosols). Making use of a phase-only spatial light modulator we present evidence of stable, interactive manipulation of both single and multiple aerosol droplets, of the order of 10 microns in diameter, and also their ...

Investigating hydrodynamic synchronisation using holographic optical tweezers
SPIE Proceedings, 2014Coordinated motion at low Reynolds number is widely observed in biological micro-systems, but the underlying mechanisms are often unclear. A holographic optical tweezers system is used to experimentally study this phenomenon, by employing optical forces to drive a pair of coplanar microspheres in circular orbits with a constant tangential force.

Setting up of holographic optical tweezer arrays
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017Optical tweezers use tightly focused laser beams to hold and move microscopic objects in a solvent. However, many applications require simultaneous control over multitude of particles, positioning them in 3D space at desired locations with desired symmetry, which is made possible by the use of holographic optical tweezers using the technique of beam ...
