Restriction of kinetic activity of holokinetic chromosomes in meiotic cells and its structural basis [PDF]

open access: yesHereditas, 2008
Kinetic behaviour of autosomes in meiotic cells of Myrmus miriformis Fn. (Corizidae, Hemiptera) was followed by using a naturally occurring satellite-like element to mark one telomere of an autosome. It was found that the telomere, being kinetically active during the first meiotic division, is kinetically inactive during the second division, suggesting

Cytogenetic characterization of periodical cicadas (Hemiptera: Cicadidae: Magicicada)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2020
The periodical cicadas of the genus Magicicada Davis, 1925 inhabiting eastern United States are characterized by a long juvenile period of 17 or 13 years and periodical mass emergence of adults. In this genus, only seven species are distinguished and are

Mitotic and meiotic behaviour of axial core structure of holokinetic chromosomes

open access: yesHereditas, 2008
The location of axial core structure in mitotic and meiotic holokinetic chromosomes was studied. In mitotic chromosomes, axial core structure was found to be located laterally in the chromatid, while in meiotic chromosomes, axial core structure was located centrally in the chromatid.

Evolutionary pattern of karyotypes and meiosis in pholcid spiders (Araneae: Pholcidae): implications for reconstructing chromosome evolution of araneomorph spiders

open access: yesBMC Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Background Despite progress in genomic analysis of spiders, their chromosome evolution is not satisfactorily understood. Most information on spider chromosomes concerns the most diversified clade, entelegyne araneomorphs.

Identification and chromosomal localization of mariner-like elements in the cabbage moth Mamestra brassicae (Lepidoptera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A complete mariner-like element has been identified in the lepidopteran Mamestra brassicae. This element, called Mbmar, represents a new type of mariner transposon.

Meiosis and fluorescent banding in Edessa meditabunda and E. rufomarginata (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae: Edessinae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2003
Species of Pentatomidae are cytogenetically characterized by the presence of holokinetic chromosomes, a pre-reductional type of meiosis, and a great constancy not only in chromosome number (2n = 14 in 85% of the 250 species analyzed) but also in the sex ...

X-linked heterochromatin distribution in the holocentric chromosomes of the green apple aphid Aphis pomi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Chromatin organization in the holocentric chromosomes of the green apple aphid Aphis pomi has been investigated at a cytological level after C-banding, NOR, Giemsa, fluorochrome staining and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH).

Comparative cytogenetic study of three Macrolophus species (Heteroptera, Miridae.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Macrolophus pygmaeus (Rambur, 1839) (Insecta, Heteroptera, Miridae) is a predator of key vegetable crop pests applied as a biocontrol agent in the Mediterranean region. M. pygmaeus and M. melanotoma (A.

Karyotype diversity among predatory Reduviidae (Heteroptera)

open access: yesComparative Cytogenetics, 2014
Species of infraorder Cimicomorpha of Heteroptera exhibit holokinetic chromosomes with inverted meiosis for sex chromosomes and high variation in chromosome number.

Analysis of heterochromatic epigenetic markers in the holocentric chromosomes of the aphid Acyrthosiphon pisum [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Monomethylated-K9 H3 histones (Me9H3) and heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) are reported as heterochromatin markers in several eukaryotes possessing monocentric chromosomes.
