Holonomy in mobile robots

Robotics and Autonomous Systems, 2009
The search for a simple and accurate odometry is a main concern when working with mobile robots. This article presents a general analysis of the problem and proposes a particular solution to improve the odometry. The three crucial kinematical aspects of mobile robots (mobility, control, and positioning) are reviewed in detail for vehicles based both in

Metrics with Exceptional Holonomy

The Annals of Mathematics, 1987
From the author's abstract ``It is proved that there exist metrics with holonomy \(G_ 2\) and Spin(7), thus settling the remaining cases in Berger's list of possible holonomy groups. We first reformulate the ``holonomy H'' condition as a set of differential equations for an associated H-structure on a given manifold.

Quantum statistical holonomy

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1989
A (faithful) density matrix can be represented by a Hilbert-Schmidt operator up to composition with a unitary operator. This ambiguity can be described in terms of a principal fibre bundle which is a modification of a construction by Uhlmann (1986). The HS norm provides a real metric which determines a natural connection via the Kaluza-Klein mechanism.

Foliations without Holonomy

1983
Recall that by a “foliation without holonomy” we mean a foliation all of whose leaves have trivial holonomy. The main topics of this chapter are to show that a foliation without holonomy on a compact manifold M is obtained by an equivariant fibration (with orientation preserving holonomy group), to make an approach to a topological ...

On the Transitivity of Holonomy Systems

The Annals of Mathematics, 1962
Abstract : A classification of possible candidates for the holonomy groups of manifolds having affine connections with zero torsion discloses only groups transitive on the unit sphere in the tangent space of the manifold, except in the case where the manifold is a symm ric space of rank greater than or equal to 2.
