Restoration of the Holotype of Proconsul nyanzae

Folia Primatologica, 1978
The crushed palate and lower face of the holotype of Proconsul nyanzae has been prepared using the acetic acid technique. The prepared and conserved fragments have been restored to their natural positions using a synthetic cement and polyethylene glycol wax (Carbowax 4000) to fill the gaps.

THE HOLOTYPE OF HYMENOCALLIS PALMERI

TAXON, 1956
The writer resided in Florida from 1930 to 1940 and he often encountered Hymenocallis palmeri in the wild, particularly on the west coast of peninsular Florida, from Collier to Pinellas counties. Seeds and bulbs were sent to Major Pam in England for study in the 1930's. Thus there was no question as to its existence.

Gonnardite; re-examination of holotype material and discreditation of tetranatrolite

American Mineralogist, 1999
Gonnardite is a fibrous zeolite. Its chemical variability and the frequent close association with thomsonite and other zeolites have made the chemical and crystal structural definition of the mineral difficult. Only recently was the structural relationship to natrolite confirmed unambiguously by single crystal X-ray diffractometry. The present chemical

Holotypes in the taxonomy of planktonic foraminiferal morphospecies

Marine Micropaleontology, 2011
Abstract The claim that holotypes serve as exemplars of morphology is examined in the context of planktonic foraminiferal taxonomy. A review of some species described over the past 90 years suggests that holotypes are selected subjectively, presumably guided by authors' conceptions of diagnostic characters.
