Evaluation of Home Appliance Translator for remote control of coventional home appliances
2007 IEEE International Symposium on Power Line Communications and Its Applications, 2007We developed a HAT (home appliance translator) and a HAT-CP (HAT control point) to enable conventional appliances without telecommunication capabilities to connect to home networks. The demand is rising for home appliances capable of connecting to networks so that they can be remotely controlled; however, purchasing appliances already with these ...

Home network control protocol for networked home appliances
IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2006We propose a new home network protocol for networked home appliances (NHAs). The proposed protocol is designed for a control network using power line communication, and has low resource overheads and low cost for the NHAs, which operate on an 8-bit microprocessor.

Automatic control applied to home appliances
2010 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2010This paper proposes an automatic load size detection system for washing machines. It aims to regulate automatically their water levels and washing cycles. The machine where this system was developed is a top load washing machine that uses a brushless permanent magnet motor (BPM motor).

Unsupervised Energy Disaggregation of Home Appliances
2017Energy management is a growing concern especially with the increasing growth of smart appliances within the home. Energy disaggregation is an ongoing challenge to discover the appliance usage by examining the energy output of a household or building. Unsupervised NILM presents the additional challenge of energy disaggregation without any reliance on ...

Home appliances, by their very nature, represent realizations of the principles of automation. Home appliances exist for the purpose of automating otherwise manual processes in the home. The operation of home appliances has been refined over the years, though the machine function has remained essentially the same.
