Enhancing Magnetic Hyperthermia at the Cell Membrane by Anchoring 92R‐Functionalized Magnetic Nanoparticles to Low‐Endocytic CCR9 Surface Receptors

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We present a strategy to enhance magnetic hyperthermia therapy by modulating nanoparticle–cell interactions. Antibody‐functionalized magnetic nanoparticles targeting the low‐internalizing CCR9 receptor enable spatially controlled membrane anchoring, reducing aggregation and maximizing heat generation under alternating magnetic fields.

The WISHED Randomized Controlled Trial: Impact of an Interactive Health Communication Application on Home Dialysis Use in People With Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Kidney Health and Disease, 2021
Background: While home dialysis therapies are more cost effective and may offer improved health-related quality of life, uptake compared to in-center hemodialysis remains low.

257 Factors Associated with Primary Care Provider (PCP) Use Among Home Dialysis Patients

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2022
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Patients utilizing dialysis receive fewer primary care services, especially during the time of initiation of dialysis. This project aims to identify clinical or demographic factors that are associated with either initiation or ...

Geometrical Designs in Volumetric Bioprinting to Study Cellular Behaviors in Engineered Constructs

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Curvature and spatial confinement guide cell behavior in volumetrically printed 3D constructs. Endothelial cells align and spread along specific geometries, while metastatic osteosarcoma cells proliferate independently of structural cues. Label‐free holographic microscopy captures real‐time, long‐term cell–material interactions, highlighting Gel‐PEG's ...

Managing Transition between dialysis modalities: a call for Integrated care In Dialysis Units

open access: yesBulletin de la Dialyse à Domicile, 2022
Summary Patients with chronic kidney disease have three main possible groups of dialysis techniques: in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and home hemodialysis.

When do we eat? An evaluation of food items input into an electronic monitoring application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We present a formative study that examines what, when, and how participants in a chronic kidney disease (stage 5) population input food items into an electronic intake monitoring application. Participants scanned food item barcodes or voice recorded food

Hybrid Scaffolds Decouple Biochemical & Biophysical Regulation of Cell Phenotype

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Replicating tissue‐specific extracellular matrix is crucial for understanding its role in disease. This work demonstrates independent control over stiffness, composition and 3D collagen architecture using hybrid scaffolds: patterned collagen perfused with defined hydrogels.

Home Dialysis in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Era

open access: yesAdvances in Chronic Kidney Disease, 2020
The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has had a significant impact on patients with end-stage kidney disease and their care, especially given the potential for severe coronavirus disease 2019 in those with a depressed immune status. Patients receiving in-
