Abstract Of 90 couples entering home hemodialysis training for the treatment of end-stage renal disease, 12 patients withdrew during home training or the first year of home treatment to transfer to center dialysis. Four patients, all men over 60, withdrew from training due to inability to learn the procedures.

This report on the difficulties of training patients for home dialysis is based on two years of experience with eight patients. In that period only one patient has gone on home dialysis; another is on his way, and the other six patients are still in various stages of resistance to home dialysis.
