Laboratory smart home energy management system
2015 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT ASIA), 2015This paper presents a laboratory hardware system, developed in the Department of Electrical Power Systems of University "Politehnica" of Bucharest, that simulate an energy management system to be applied in a smart home. The core of the system is a controller that is capable of switching on/off various domestic appliances as a response to price signals.

Home energy management with PSO in smart grid
2014 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2014In this paper, a real-time optimal appliance usage strategy is proposed based on binary particle swarm algorithm, participated by both energy suppliers and end users. Under the multi end-users and time-of-use electricity prices circumstances, the total electricity bills can be generated with different appliance usage pattern: random, single optimal ...

A Novel Home Energy Management System Architecture
2011 UkSim 13th International Conference on Computer Modelling and Simulation, 2011The number of electronic devices found in home environments is increasing, leading to an increase in the energy consumption in users' premises. Introducing a Home Energy Management System (HEMS) into user residences might provide the necessary tools to reduce and optimize the energy consumption in home environments. However, this is not an easy task as

A Meta-Heuristic Home Energy Management System
2017 31st International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications Workshops (WAINA), 2017In this work, we evaluate performance of home energy management system(HEM) by using three meta-heuristic optimization techniques: Harmony search algorithm (HSA), Bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) and Enhanced deferential evolution(EDE). We categorize appliances into three groups on the basis of their energy consumption pattern.

Network architecture for home energy management system
IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2003This paper describes a network architecture for home energy management system (HEMS). To realize HEMS, networked appliances with control/monitor capabilities and home network without new wiring are indispensable. However, appliances with no expansive functions and conventional power-line carrier communication deteriorated by its interference have made ...
