Homogeneous charge compression ignition with synthetic fuels

MTZ worldwide, 2005
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) represents a promising alternative mode of combustion to simultaneously reduce engine-out emissions of particulates and nitrogen oxides. In this article, the effect of different, mostly synthetic fuels on the HCCI combustion process and emissions will be discussed.

Active valvetrain for homogeneous charge compression ignition

International Journal of Engine Research, 2005
Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI), also known as controlled autoignition (CAI) or the premixed charge compression ignition (PCCI) engine concept, has the potential to be highly efficient and to produce low NO x , carbon dioxide, and particulate matter emissions.

Torque-oriented control of an homogeneous charge compression ignition vehicle

2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2008
This paper presents a torque-oriented structure designed for a diesel homogeneous combustion compression ignition (HCCI) engine control. The proposed controllers are designed to get the maximum benefit provided by the HCCI combustion system. The engine control issues comes from the sensitivity of the HCCI combustion system and from the complexity of ...

Adaptive control of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engines

2012 American Control Conference (ACC), 2012
This paper presents an adaptive controller which maintains consistent ignition timing control of a gasoline homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine with high dilution in the presence of uncertainty or unknown variation in plant parameters such as exhaust runner wall temperature and cylinder charge properties. The control of the combustion

The possibility of running homogeneous charge compression ignition in spark ignition and compression ignition small-scale engines

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power and Energy, 2011
Homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is known as an advanced combustion system. Due to cost limitations, small-scale engines are not equipped with features and devices, such as variable valve timing, intake heater, etc. which facilitate HCCI combustion. This study implemented HCCI on two small-scale engines, 150 cc spark ignition (SI) and 224

Modeling Combustion in Compression Ignition Homogeneous Charge Engines

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The combustion mechanism in a Compression Ignition Homogeneous Charge (CIHC) engine was studied. Previous experiments done on a four-stroke CIHC engine were modeled using the KIVA-II code with modifications to the combustion, heat transfer, and crevice flow submodels.

Fuel suitability for homogeneous charge compression ignition combustion

Energy Conversion and Management, 2016
Abstract The main focus of this paper is to investigate the impact of fuel type on HCCI combustion under different engine loads. A coupled chemical kinetics-computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model is developed to investigate the combustion performance and emissions characteristics of a HCCI engine with pre-combustion chamber fueled with natural gas ...

A Spectroscopic Analysis of a Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Engine

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2007
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) combustion offers the advantages of high efficiency and low emissions of pollutants. However, ignition timing control and expansion of the stable operation region are issues remaining to be addressed in this combustion process ...

Homogeneous-Charge Compression-Ignition (HCCI) Engines

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) combustion can be made to occur in a four-stroke engine with smooth and even combustion under some circumstances. It offers the possibility of light load operation without throttling, thus giving fuel economy like a diesel, in the same engine allowing full load ...
