Productivity‐Driven Optimization of Laser Powder Bed Fusion Parameters for IN718 Superalloy: Process Control, Microstructure, and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates how optimizing laser power, scanning speed, and hatching distance in laser powder bed fusion can boost the productivity of Inconel 718 manufacturing by up to 29% while maintaining mechanical integrity. The work delivers a validated process window and cost–time analysis, offering industry‐ready guidelines for efficient additive ...

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Acidification treatment of lignin from sugarcane bagasse results in fractions of reduced polydispersity and high free-radical scavenging capacity

open access: yes, 2016
Lignin constitutes up to one-third of the material found in plant cell walls and is considered the second most abundant natural polymer in the world. Despite unique characteristics of lignin, it is mostly used for low-value commercial applications.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Stochastic homogenization of fractional obstacle problems

open access: yes
We prove a stochastic homogenization result for a class of \emph{nonlinear} and \emph{nonlocal} variational problems in domains with many small randomly distributed (bilateral) obstacles. Our model case is a Dirichlet problem for the \emph{fractional} $p$-Laplacian, $p>1$, where a pinning condition $u=0$ is imposed on the solution in a \emph{random}

Dynamical determinants and their applications [PDF]

open access: yes
This thesis is concerned with situations where we can define trace-class transfer oper- ators, and extract useful information from their determinants. The first topic is on Lyapunov exponents of random products of matrices.
