A Method for Choosing the Spatial and Temporal Approximations for the LES Approach

open access: yesFluids, 2022
Analysis and optimization of the hybrid upwind-central numerical methods for modern versions of large eddy simulations (LESs) are presented herein. Optimization was performed based on examination of the characteristics of the spatial and temporal finite ...

Plasmakristall‐4 Experiment: 10 Years of Operation in Orbit

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plasmakristall‐4 (PK‐4) is a microgravity complex plasma laboratory operated for 10 years on board the International Space Station. Its main purpose is the particle‐resolved investigation of generic condensed matter phenomena using strongly coupled suspensions of microparticles immersed in low‐pressure gas‐discharge plasmas.

Simulation of fully resolved finite-size particles in a turbulent flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this study we are interested on the statistics of finite sized particles. A sustained homogeneous isotropic turbulence with particles is numerically simulated in order to obtain those ...

Anomalous scaling in homogeneous isotropic turbulence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2001
The anomalous scaling exponents $ _{n}$ of the longitudinal structure functions $S_{n}$ for homogeneous isotropic turbulence are derived from the Navier-Stokes equations by using field theoretic methods to develop a low energy approximation in which the Kolmogorov theory is shown to act effectively as a mean field theory.

A Review of Black Phosphorus‐Based Materials: From Preparation Strategies to Characterization Techniques

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
The structure, properties, preparation methods, and characterization techniques of BP. As a typical 2D layered material, black phosphorus (BP) demonstrates exceptional promise in various fields, particularly in energy storage for alkali metal‐ion batteries. However, its distinctive structure and properties, together with the compositional complexity of

Correlation between large- and small-scale velocity components under Fourier filters

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters, 2014
By introducing the Fourier filters, we analyse the correlation between large- and small-scale velocity components in homogeneous isotropic turbulence theoretically. We show that different Fourier filters act similarly on this multi-scale correlation with

Turbulent Flame Propagation in Hydrogen-Air and Methane-Air Mixtures in the Field of Synthetic Turbulence: Direct Numerical Simulation

open access: yesEng, 2023
A technique alternative to the direct numerical simulation of turbulent combustion of gas mixtures is proposed. It is based on the solution of the three-dimensional transport equations for species concentrations and the energy conservation equation in ...

Scaling properties in the production range of shear dominated flows

open access: yes, 2005
Recent developments in turbulence are focused on the effect of large scale anisotropy on the small scale statistics of velocity increments. According to Kolmogorov, isotropy is recovered in the large Reynolds number limit as the scale is reduced and, in ...

A numerical tool for the study of the hydrodynamic recovery of the Lattice Boltzmann Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the hydrodynamic recovery of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) by analyzing exact balance relations for energy and enstrophy derived from averaging the equations of motion on sub-volumes of different sizes.
