Homogenization of fiber-reinforced composites with random properties using the weighted least squares response function approach

open access: yesArchives of Mechanics, 2011
The main aim of the paper is a determination of the basic probabilistic characteristics for the effective elasticity tensor of the periodic fiber-reinforced composites, using the generalized stochastic perturbation technique.

Waveform Relaxation for the Computational Homogenization of Multiscale Magnetoquasistatic Problems

open access: yes, 2016
This paper proposes the application of the waveform relaxation method to the homogenization of multiscale magnetoquasistatic problems. In the monolithic heterogeneous multiscale method, the nonlinear macroscale problem is solved using the Newton--Raphson

A Wash-Free Homogeneous Colorimetric Immunoassay Method

open access: yesTheranostics, 2016
Rapid and convenient biosensing platforms could be beneficial to timely diagnosis and treatment of diseases in virtually any care settings. Sandwich immunoassays, the most commonly used methods for protein detection, often rely on expensive tags such as enzyme and tedious wash and incubation procedures operated by skilled labor.

Optimizing Post Friction Stir Welding Heat Treatment in Dissimilar Friction Stir Welded 6061/AlSi10MgMn Joints for Electrical Vehicle Battery Housing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Microstructural evolution and hardness optimization along the cross‐section of friction stir welded AA6061/AlSi10MgMn joints, for electric vehicle battery housings, were investigated. Postweld aging between 170°C and 220°C enhances hardness uniformity within the nugget zone.

Homogenization of the Schrodinger equation with a time oscillating potential

open access: yes, 2005
We study the homogenization of a Schrodinger equation in a periodic medium with a time dependent potential. This is a model for semiconductors excited by an external electromagnetic wave.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Nonasymptotic Homogenization of Periodic Electromagnetic Structures: Uncertainty Principles

open access: yes, 2015
We show that artificial magnetism of periodic dielectric or metal/dielectric structures has limitations and is subject to at least two "uncertainty principles". First, the stronger the magnetic response (the deviation of the effective permeability tensor

Multimodal Mechanical Testing of Additively Manufactured Ti6Al4V Lattice Structures: Compression, Bending, and Fatigue

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

Homogenization of oscillating boundaries and applications to thin films

open access: yes, 2000
We prove a homogenization result for integral functionals in domains with oscillating boundaries, showing that the limit is defined on a degenerate Sobolev space. We apply this result to the description of the asymptotic behaviour of thin films with fast-

Homogenization method and multiscale modeling

open access: yes, 2011
This mini-course addresses graduate students and young researchers in mathematics and engineering sciences interested in applying both formal and rigorous averaging methods to real-life problems described by means of partial differential equations (PDEs) posed in heterogeneous media.
