Homogenization of heterogeneous, fibre structured materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This contribution presents a multi-scale homogenization method to model fibre structured materials. On the macroscopic level textiles are characterized by a large area-to-thickness ratio, such that a discretization with shell elements is numerically ...

Measure of combined effects of morphological parameters of inclusions within composite materials via stochastic homogenization to determine effective mechanical properties

open access: yes, 2015
In our previous papers we have described efficient and reliable methods of generation of representative volume elements (RVE) perfectly suitable for analysis of composite materials via stochastic homogenization.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Intensity Segmentation of the Human Brain with Tissue dependent Homogenization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
High-precision segmentation of the human cerebral cortex based on T1-weighted MRI is still a challenging task. When opting to use an intensity based approach, careful data processing is mandatory to overcome inaccuracies.

Methods to Make Homogenous Antibody Drug Conjugates [PDF]

open access: yesPharmaceutical Research, 2014
Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) have progressed from hypothesis to approved therapeutics in less than 30 years, and the technologies available to modify both the antibodies and the cytotoxic drugs are expanding rapidly. For reasons well reviewed previously, the field is trending strongly toward homogeneous, defined antibody conjugation.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Parallel homogenization analysis of FW-CFRP for high-pressure hydrogen tanks considering fiber waviness

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal
In this study, a parallel three-scale homogenization analysis simulator that accounts for macro-, meso-, and micro-scale structures was developed for the carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRPs) used in high-pressure hydrogen storage vessels manufactured

Influence of homogenization methods on lichen species detection from environmental DNA metabarcoding [PDF]

open access: yesMetabarcoding and Metagenomics
Environmental DNA (eDNA) techniques are increasingly employed in biodiversity monitoring of aquatic and terrestrial animals, plants, and fungi, holding great potential to revolutionize biodiversity assessments.

An efficient numerical method for estimating the average free boundary velocity in an inhomogeneous Hele-Shaw problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We develop a numerical method to estimate the average speed of the free boundary in a Hele-Shaw problem with periodic coefficients in both space and time. We test the accuracy of the method and present a few examples.

Homogenization-based numerical methods

open access: yesDiscrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems - Series S, 2016
This note recalls what are "Homogenization-Based Numerical Methods". Then it introduces the papers of this Special Issue. In a third section it advocates for building a project in order to build "Homogenization- Based Software for Simulation of Multi-Scale Complex Systems".
