Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

A homogenization method for nonlinear inhomogeneous elastic materials

open access: yesVirtual Reality & Intelligent Hardware, 2021
Background: Fast simulation techniques are strongly favored in computer graphics, especially for the nonlinear inhomogeneous elastic materials. The homogenization theory is a perfect match to simulate inhomogeneous deformable objects with its coarse ...

Homologous expression and purification of human HAX‐1 for structural studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol provides detailed instructions for cloning, expressing, and purifying large quantities of the intrinsically disordered human HAX‐1 protein, N‐terminally fused to a cleavable superfolder GFP, from mammalian cells. HAX‐1 is predicted to undergo posttranslational modifications and to interact with membranes, various cellular ...

New High Efficiency and Strength Bending Strain Sensor Based on Piezoelectric Stacks

open access: yesBuildings
This article is devoted to a mathematical model of a new piezoelectric sensor used for measuring bending strains. The first simple model of a piezoelectric sensor of bending deformations (we will call it a classical sensor) was presented in our previous ...

Comparison of Methods to Assay Liver Glycogen Fractions: The Effects of Starvation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2017
Introduction: There are several methods to extract and measure glycogen in animal tissues. Glycogen is extracted with or without homogenization by using cold Perchloric Acid (PCA).

Effective Homogenization Method for Control Rod Channels. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 1994
A cell calculation method has been developed for accurately treating neutron transport and heterogeneity effects of control rods (CRs) within the bounds of homogeneous neutron diffusion theory. In this method, CR cell-averaged homogeneous neutron cross sections are calculated by a heterogeneous neutron transport calculation with an annular supercell ...

Homogeneous multigrid method for hybridizable interior penalty method

open access: yesNumerical Algorithms, 2023
Abstract In this paper, we present a rigorous convergence analysis of a homogeneous multigrid method for the hybridizable interior penalty (IP-H) method. In particular,we use the injection operator developed in [1]. It is shown that when the penalization parameter is sufficiently large, our proposed multigrid method is optimal under the ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.

Homogenization of the one-dimensional wave equation

open access: yes, 2013
We present a method for two-scale model derivation of the periodic homogenization of the one-dimensional wave equation in a bounded domain. It allows for analyzing the oscillations occurring on both microscopic and macroscopic scales.

Down‐regulation of Shh in the hair follicles of mice during chemotherapy‐induced hair loss is mediated by the JAK/STAT1 signaling pathway

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We found that during chemotherapy‐induced alopecia (CIA), Sonic hedgehog (Shh) expression significantly decreased in hair follicle Shh+ cells, whereas the Janus‐activated kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (JAK/STAT1) signaling pathway was markedly activated.
