Therapeutic Properties of Stingless Bee Honey in Comparison with European Bee Honey

open access: yesAdvances in Pharmacological Sciences, 2018
Both honeybees (Apis spp.) and stingless bees (Trigona spp.) produce honeys with high nutritional and therapeutics value. Until recently, the information regarding potential health benefits of stingless bee honey (SBH) in medical databases is still scarce as compared to the common European bee honey (EBH) which is well known for their properties as ...

Immune priming of honey bees protects against a major microsporidian pathogen

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
We immune‐primed honey bees at two developmental stages in the laboratory and the field with heat‐killed Nosema ceranae spores. When subsequently fed live spores, immune‐primed adults had lower infection levels. Abstract BACKGROUND Honey bees face significant threats from pathogens like Nosema ceranae, a microsporidian parasite that contributes to ...

Pathogenicity of Serratia marcescens Strains in Honey Bees

open access: yesmBio, 2018
Although few honey bee diseases are known to be caused by bacteria, pathogens of adult worker bees may be underrecognized due to social immunity mechanisms. Specifically, infected adult bees typically abandon the hive or are removed by guards.

Honey Bee Foraging Patterns In Rural and Urban Landscapes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Honey bees are an important insect for crop pollination and honey production, regularly traveling 5km from their hive to forage for nectar and pollen. In agricultural landscapes they forage on crops and the herbaceous plants on field margins.

Pesticide use in integrated pest and pollinator management framework to protect pollinator health

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1691-1696, April 2025.
Integrated pest management (IPM) emphasizes non‐chemical methods, with pesticides as a last resort, while integrated pest and pollinator management (IPPM) integrates pollinator health into pest control strategies. Abstract Agricultural pesticides have historically been a critical tool in controlling pests and diseases, preventing widespread suffering ...

Strong Interspecific Differences in Foraging Activity Observed Between Honey Bees and Bumble Bees Using Miniaturized Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2018
Central place foragers depart from and return to a central location with enough resources for themselves, and in many cases, for the group. Honey bees and bumble bees are eusocial central place foragers.

Session 11 - “Dangerous things”: A Symbolic domain for killer bees

open access: yes, 2007
Viewing usage of words in culture as key symbols, Sherry B. Ortner\u27s indicators were applied to an analysis of the lay-public’s use of killer bee , Africanized Honey Bee , and honey bee . While conducting social impact study in southern Nevada, the

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

Dominance of African racial ancestry in honey bee colonies of Mexico 30 years after the migration of hybrids from South America

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications
The Africanized honey bee, a hybrid of Apis mellifera scutellata from Africa with European subspecies, has been considered an invasive species and a problem for beekeeping.
