Two New Species of Sucking Lice (Anoplura: Hoplopleuridae) from Nigeria
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1979Two new species of Werneckia, W. africana , n. sp. and W. nigeriensis , n. sp., are described and illustrated. They were collected from four-striped squirrels, Funisciurus lemniscatus and F. isabella , trapped in Nigeria. Additionally, a key to these new species as well as to W. minuta and W. paraxeri is given.

Further evidence is presented that acquired resistance of mice to lice is locally mediated. Normal, previously unexposed skin transplanted to athymic nude mice was readily colonized by lice and did not acquire resistance, but louse-resistant skin similarly grafted remained resistant for at least 12 weeks.

Antennal Sensilla Coeloconica of Pedicinus obtusus obtusus (Anoplura: Hoplopleuridae)
Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1971Recently (Miller 1969; 1970a,b; 1971a) I have shown the sensilla on the distal antennal segments of the Anoplura, previously described as ring sensoria by Ferris (1951), to be either sensilla basiconica or sensilla coeloconica. It was demonstrated also (Miller 1971a) that the size of the openings of the sensilla coeloconica and the distinctness and ...

Discrimination of adults of the three closely related species of the Hoplopleura hesperomydis complex of lice (Anoplura) is discussed, including a standardized system for taking measurements, followed by various statistical analyses of the data. Certain measurements are shown to have taxonomic value in discriminating between species after analysis, and
