Flora, 1984Summary 282 wild races of Hordeum L. subgen. Hordeum have been studied concerning pollination ecology. Anther length is a good character for demonstrating the breeding system. Races of Hordeum spontaneum from primary habitats have relatively long anthers (> 4 mm). They are postulated as initial forms for the evolution of cultivated and weedy barleys.

Hordeum jubatum L. Artbeschreibung: 20-60 cm hoch, aufrecht oder knickig aufsteigend. Blätter 2-4 mm breit, oberseits rau, unterseits behaart, Blattscheiden +/- abstehend behaart. Ähre 3-8(-11) cm lang, Achse bewimpert, bei Reife zerbrechend. Seitliche Ährchen bis 3 mm, mittleres 1 mm gestielt. Deckspelze des mittleren Ährchens bis 10 cm lang begrannt.
