The HST/ACS star formation history of the Tucana dwarf spheroidal galaxy: clues from the horizontal branch [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2019
We report a new star formation history for the Tucana dwarf spheroidal galaxy, obtained from a new look at a deep HST/ACS colour-magnitude diagram. We combined information from the main sequence turn-off and the horizontal branch to resolve the ancient ...

Identification of Blue Horizontal-branch Stars from LAMOST DR5

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
We construct a new catalog of the blue horizontal-branch (BHB) stars from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) DR5 data set, which contains 5355 + 81 BHB stars at high Galactic latitude (∣Glat∣ > 20°).

Pulsational instabilities driven by the ∈ mechanism in hot pre-horizontal branch stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
Context. The ∈ mechanism is a self-excitation mechanism of stellar pulsations that acts in regions inside the star where nuclear burning takes place.

The horizontal-branch A stars [PDF]

open access: yesPublications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, 1979
The observational determination of astrophysical parameters of horizontal-branch A stars is discussed. Effective temperatures, surface gravities, and bolometric magnitudes are determined for seven field horizontal-branch A stars, and their masses are calculated. The mean mass for these seven stars is 0.6 + or - 0.4 solar mass.

Search for stellar spots in field blue horizontal-branch stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2018
Context. Blue horizontal-branch stars are Population II objects which are burning helium in their core and possess a hydrogen-burning shell and radiative envelope.

Numerical Simulation Study Of Squeezed Branch Piles Based On Post-grouting Technology [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
The squeezed branch pile has strong resistance to pressure, pullout and horizontal force, and it also has excellent stability, which makes it widely used in the field of electrical engineering.

Horizontal Branch Evolution [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1989
AbstractIn 1973 the outstanding problems confronting the theory of horizontal branch evolution were the “second parameter” problem and the Oosterhoff Effect. Despite significant progress, particularly in the observations and in the observation/theory interface, they remain as the outstanding problems of 1988.

Production Behavior Analysis of Multibranched Horizontal Oil Well considering Reservoir and Well-Type Factors

open access: yesGeofluids, 2022
Multibranched horizontal well is an important means to develop low permeability reservoirs. Fishbone multibranched horizontal well has the advantages of increasing drainage area, reducing drilling number, utilizing existing wells, and saving oilfield ...

The peculiar horizontal branch of NGC 2808 [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2010
We present an accurate analysis of the peculiar Horizontal Branch (HB) of the massive Galactic globular cluster NGC 2808, based on high-resolution far-UV and optical images of the central region of the cluster obtained with HST. We confirm the multimodal distribution of stars along the HB: 4 sub-populations separated by gaps are distinguishable.

A Wide View of the Galactic Globular Cluster NGC 2808: Red Giant and Horizontal Branch Star Spatial Distributions

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
Wide-field and deep DECam multiband photometry, combined with HST data for the core of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 2808, allowed us to study the distribution of various stellar subpopulations and stars in different evolutionary phases out to the ...
